End of Summer Hilarity

August 31, 2010

Trish has been sourcing me with Improv Everywhere for several years. I am sure most of you have seen their stuff. But this was posted today. Dead funny. What can the church learn? What can we learn from this about spiritual conversation?

The message I get, is that we as Christians must stand out as being joyfully different. Touching people’s lives by how we live our faith. Spread happiness by just being glad ourselves and the world will want to know more of the source of our happiness.

The Black Ties did ‘beachy things’ just like the other people. But it didn’t look to me like many people interacted with the Black Ties. They were curiosities for others on the beach…with no apparent impact other than to make those people laugh. So, with our “churchy language” and/or “churchy attire” are we out in the culture just as curiosities? Wouldn’t it be hard to have a spiritual conversation with someone when you are seen as a “curiosity?” Which, for me, begs the question: How do I bridge the gap with regular people when I’m a “Black Tie” on the beach?

perhaps that’s one of eth possible points….we tend to be black ties on the beach and don’t really engage people in conversations about their or our own ‘spiritual cultures’?????

We as christians should not conform to the world, or look like everybody, we must show we are different, like the black tie and evening wear. Everybody will be curious about who, what we are, they will take pictures of us, like on this beach. We have to become one in Jesus, show the divine.
